The average weight for an adult
cat is between six and eleven pounds (three and
five kilograms) some cats have bigger bones than others.
In order to tell if a cat is overweight, look at it from above
and slowly run your fingers over its sides, from its shoulders to its tail. If
you can see and feel its ribs easily, then it is underweight. If you can't see
a cat's ribs but can feel them when you press your fingers lightly on its
flanks, then it is the correct weight. You will also see a slight indentation
just behind its ribs when you look at your cat from above.
If you have difficulty feeling its ribs and it's difficult to
make out this indentation then your cat is almost certainly overweight. If you
can't feel its ribs or this indentation at all then it is likely to be obese.
Overweight cats also behave differently ,they walk slowly and are reluctant to
play.
